Robert Bonfils, THE UNIFORMED KILLERS, (THE PHANTOM DETECTIVE # 19) - The Corinth Regency (Greenleaf) paperback release of this pulp story reprint by 'Robert Wallace' (D.L.Champion, this time).

Robert Bonfils, ANYTHING GOES - "She was love, lust, virginity, the wanton abandon of a gluttonous slut." - The Newsstand Libray paperback release of Robert Carney's adults-only story.  The cover was featured in Feral House's sleaze paperback review SIN-A-RAMA and utilized as the cover of one of the editions.

Robert Bonfils, THE BRONZE AND THE WINE - "He learned that love has many meanings-" - The Leisure Books (Greenleaf) paperback release of this adult novel by 'J.X. Williams' (this time, Victor J. Banis).

Robert Bonfils, THE SHAME TAKERS - "He ruined every life he touched !" - The Leisure Books paperback release of this tale by 'Dean Hudson' (Evan Hunter).

Robert Bonfils, THE WICKED WEEKEND - "In Harbortown drugs and degradation bought--The Wicked Weekend" - The Reed Nightstand (Greenleaf) paperback release of this story by 'Wallace Neville' (apparently a house name), which is reported to have been a reprint of Orgy Town, credited then to author Will Newbury.

Robert Bonfils, THE QUARTET IN WHITE - "Rinda Cameron-Fran Walters-Ethel Berkheimer-Gail Hawes -- Their lives and loves formed a pattern for hospital intrigue" - The Medical Fiction paperback release of this story by Philip Ketchum.

Robert Bonfils, SONG OF SIXPENCE - "The sweet music of her innocence became a--Song Of Sixpence" - The Ember Library (Greenleaf) paperback release of this story by 'J.X. Williams' (a house name).

Robert Bonfils, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS - This was the cover of a giant coloring book produced by Playmore.

Robert Bonfils, THE BECKONING FLAME - "He knew it was shameful...yet such was his lust that he lost all sense and reason." - The Newsstand Library (Neva) paperback release of this story by Don Michaud.

Robert Bonfils, SUPER CIRCUS MENAGERIE - "Claude Kirchner, Mary Hartline-Cliffy, Nicky and Scampy-Music by the famous Super Circus Band " - The Playcraft Records (Mercury) release of this children's record.

Robert Bonfils, DEL VIKINGS-THEY SING...THEY SWING - "Famous for their hits Come Go With Me-Whispering Bells-Cool Shake" - The Mercury LP vinyl release of this early collection of their songs.

     ------------------------------------------------------- FRANK FRAZETTA -------------------------------------------------------

Frank Frazetta, NIGHT MANUEVERS - Reportedly, in some association with the West Point Academy Sesquicentennial, the National Cartoonist Society, called for member contributions for their commemoration that light-heartedly poked fun at that institution's lack of co-ed status and this was Frazetta's.

Frank Frazetta, HERMAN'S HERMITS - Used for the cover of their album, BOTH SIDES OF HERMAN'S HERMITS.

Frank Frazetta, THE GIRL FROM FARRIS'S - The cover illustration for Edgar Rice Burroughs novel of the same name.

Frank Frazetta, UNTITLED - In an effort to draw out the taciturn artist more, family friend Dr. Dave Winiewicz says he gave him a sketchbook and asked him to instead illustrate interesting aspects of his life when so inspired.  The sketchbook did end up with several such drawings and this is one of them.  I haven't yet heard an anecdote that would match this illustration.

Frank Frazetta, UNTITLED - A group of young artists working for EC Comics in the 1950s; Frazetta, Roy Krenkel, Al Williamson, Angelo Torres, Nick Meglin and George Woodbridge; were loosely termed the Fleagle Gang (after the notorius criminals).  I believe this was Frazetta's self-caricature drawn as part of that fun.

Frank Frazetta, HE STAYED BEHIND, (BURIED TREASURE # 4) - "Heroic art by Frazetta" - I'm sure the image started as a panel in this short comic-adapted story of posthumous Medal of Honor recipient Korean War first lieutenant Frederick Henry.  Who evolved it into a painting to be the cover of this reprint comic is uncertain to me, as I'm imagining that it wasn't Frazetta.

Frank Frazetta, WHITE INDIAN splash panel - From a story appearing in that comic book.

Frank Frazetta [title unknown] - This has seen publication in a couple of articles and has been frequently shown in pictures of Frazetta's private life, as it seems to have had a position of prominence over the family couch, but I haven't seen it collected at all otherwise.

Frank Frazetta, LI'L ABNER-MICKEY ROONEY & GINA LOLLABRIGIDA - "I've told her it's the smog-- // Poor dear-we'll do all we can for her." - While, early in his career, Frazetta was 'ghosting' for Al Capp on the daily newspaper comic-strip, he took pleasure in spotting in easily-recognizable celebrities (such as these two actors) when storylines took the cast out of their own town of Dogpatch.

Frank Frazetta, JOHNNY COMET PANEL - "Relax, guys. I'm okay..."

     ------------------------------------------------------- WILF HARDY -------------------------------------------------------

Wilf Hardy, TO THE MOON ON A BATTLESHIP BLAST, (LOOK AND LEARN # 516) - This image was used years later in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, THE GEMINI 8 EMERGENCY, (LOOK AND LEARN 19??) - In a yet undetermined weekly issue of Britain's Look And Learn magazine, appeared an article detailing the events of "the Gemini Emergency" where during a training mission docking & undocking with the Agena Target Vehicle, Gemini 8 begun to violently tumble due to one of its positional thrusters failing to shut off.  Years later the art was re-used (and perhaps the article itself) as an entry titled 'In Deadly Danger' in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, WILEY POST, (in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION) - This image of the famed aviator in his pressure-suit (he helped design the first ones) probably appeared in LOOK AND LEARN magazine before being used in the book SPACE WARS and its essay on such suits.

Wilf Hardy, STRATO-LAB HIGH V, (in LOOK AND LEARN # ??? (from 1970)) - I'd guess this art probably accompanied an article detailing the record-breaking balloon ascent made in service of testing experimental space-suits.  (Only in just reading about this did I learn that one of these two early-space-program members drowned during the ocean-landing recovery.)  Years later, this art (and perhaps the entire article) was re-used in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, MOON LANDING, (in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION) - It seems like this appeared years before with some article in Look And Learn magazine about the moon landing.

Wilf Hardy, THE MOON CAMERA, (in LOOK AND LEARN # 328) - Years later, this entire article and its illustrations were recycled into SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, BATTLESHIP BLAST, (LOOK AND LEARN # 516) - "To The Moon On A Battleship Blast" - One half of this cover.

Wilf Hardy, GEMINI SPACEWALK, (in SPACE WARS FACT AND FICTION) - While this art probably appeared previously in Britain's LOOK AND LEARN magazine, I haven't been able to confirm or identify that.   It was re-used much, much later as the cover of HVAC&R NATION 2015-June (an industry trade magazine for Heat Ventilation Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration)("Future World--A new dimension in HVAC&R education // Refrigerant Reclaim // APPs For Traders // Skills Workshop [...]: R22 Phase-Out Guide-Part 1").

Wilf Hardy, WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE, (LOOK AND LEARN # 450) - "'We Have A Problem Here!' What went wrong with Apollo 13 ?" - Years later, this art was re-used (perhaps the original article as well) in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, GREAT BALLS OF FIRE, (LOOK AND LEARN # 797) - Years later, this art was re-used in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.

Wilf Hardy, MAN REACHES OUT - It appears that this art was used for something in a British LOOK AND LEARN magazine and years later showed up in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION accompanying an essay titled Man Reaches Out.  Hardy's signature is clear.

Wilf Hardy, TELESCOPE IN SPACE, (LOOK AND LEARN # 719) - "Telescope In Space - read this fascinating feature inside // Inside - The Prehistoric World booklet-Part 2" - After this initial appearance, the art was re-used on a later issue, #861 ("Unlocking The Secret Of Space--This week's Frontiers Of Science feature // The bird who is the...Friend Of The Vultures // Transitor radios to be won-see inside").  Then the art was re-used again, this time as the title page of SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION.  Hardy's signature is clear.

Wilf Hardy, ALEXEI LEONOV, (in LOOK AND LEARN from 1974) - This illustration accompanied an article about the Russian Leonov and his historic first spacewalk.  Years later, the art was re-used in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION as part of their material covering humanity's space-program efforts.

Wilf Hardy, ENTERPRISE, (in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION) - While very likely that this art was utilized previously (perhaps in Britain's LOOK & LEARN magazine), we found it in SPACE WARS-FACT AND FICTION, being used to help illustrate an essay titled Man Reaches Out.

     ------------------------------------------------------- SAM SAVITT -------------------------------------------------------

Sam Savitt, THE SCARECROW, (THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH # 1) - "He rides the marshes like a demon ghost, striking terror into the hearts of evil men throughout the land !" - An adaptation of the Walt Disney movie, to soon be followed by two issues of new adventures carrying the shorter title The Scarecrow.

Sam Savitt, BEWARE THE FALSE DEMON GHOST, (THE SCARECROW # 2) - "From marsh to highland goes the cry . . . Beware The False Demon Ghost !"

Sam Savitt, SON OF BLACK BEAUTY 1, (FOUR COLOR # 510) - Based on Phyllis Briggs' novel of this name.

Sam Savitt, SON OF BLACK BEAUTY 2, (FOUR COLOR # 566) - Reportedly not really connected narratively to the Black Beauty stories.

Sam Savitt, THE WATER BIRDS, (FOUR COLOR # 700) - "Colorful creature . . . of constant wonder, mystery, and beauty to all mankind . . ." This comic contained an adaptation of a short Walt Disney nature film entitled "The Water Birds".

     ------------------------------------------------------- ALBERTO VARGAS -------------------------------------------------------

Alberto Vargas, SHIRLEY TEMPLE - A performer portrait commissioned by Fox Studios

Alberto Vargas, [unknown title] - I've seen both 'Tale Of Mystery' and 'Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde' associated with this art, but they didn't help identify any commercial use of it.

Alberto Vargas, L'OEIL VRAI - The French translates roughly to 'The True Eye'.

Alberto Vargas, DIANA, (THE DANCE MAGAZINE 1931-Nov) - Thought to be a representation of Diana The Huntress.

  Alberto Vargas, LA COQUETTE

     ------------------------------------------------------- GEORGE WILSON -------------------------------------------------------

George Wilson, SINGAPORE - "A baffling case of murder and international intrigue summons the brilliant black detective from the streets of Pasadena to the sordid underworld of the Far East." - The PaperJacks release in John Ball's Virgil Tibbs paperback mystery series.  This is known to be a Wilson painting.

George Wilson, JET DREAM, (JET DREAM # 1) - "Jet and her acrobeauts play human shields for a generalissimo worth two million - dead !" -  the full title on the cover was Jet Dream And Her Stunt-Girl Counterspies.  Only one issue of this series was produced.  The cover was featured in the artist's THE ART OF GEORGE WILSON.

George Wilson, THE WRATH OF GARDE, (THE CHAMELEON # 1) - "Like you, he's mad as hell and isn't going to take it any more !" - This was the 1st release in the Chameleon action-paperback series by Jerry LaPlante.  It was about Vance Garde, a brainy super-capable millionaire fixated on making the perpetrators pay for their transgressions (without a single association to chameleons whatsoever).  This particular cover was tinted greener and repurposed for a Swedish James Bond adventure whose title translates to THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE.

George Wilson, MYSTERY IN BLACK, (JUNGLE JIM # 19) - "He tracked a freak of nature . . . the Mystery In Black" - 'Jungle Jim' was newspaper comic-page fixture for some time, had seen a film-serial & a series of movies, and was gearing up for a short-lived televison-series as the Dell-Western operation gained the license to produce their own comic-books about the Southeastern-Asia adventurer/hunter.

George Wilson, MISSION CODE: SPRINGBOARD, (MAC WINGATE # 5) - "Mac infiltrates occupied Warsaw-and is bait for a Nazi murder squad !  Newest in the explosive Army action series !" - Another Jove release in this paperback series by 'Bryan Swift' (this one by Bill C. Knott).  This is known to be a Wilson canvas, and his signature can be made out.

George Wilson, CLEAR SHOT, (ABLE TEAM # 34) - "A movie set becomes a battleground for America's future" - Another Golden Eagle release in the action-paperback series by 'Dick Stivers' (this one by Ron Renauld).  This painting is part of the permanent holdings of the Society of Illustrators and credited to Wilson.

George Wilson, THE PRISONER OF ZENDA, (CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED # 76) - Gilberton's adaptation of Anthony Hope's novel.

George Wilson, MOCK RAID, (FOUR COLOR # 737) - "A 'Mock Raid' - and the Civil Air Patrol was invited . . . but somebody crashed the party with real bullets !" -  Headlined MILTON CANIFF'S STEVE CANYON, this was one of several issues appearing under the FOUR COLOR banner that presented an adventure of the newspaper-strip stalwart in comics form.

George Wilson, SHOWBIZ WIPEOUT, (THE PENETRATOR # 32) - "Mark Hardin in Hollywood - striking out against a talent agency terrorizing stars" - This was the 32nd release in this action-paperback series by 'Lionel Derrick' (this one actually by Chet Cunningham).

George Wilson, FORBIDDEN TREASURE - BMI's paperback release of this romance by Leona Karr (author of Illusions).  This is known to be a Wilson canvas.
